Jeanne Dalton and Amelia Funk were recently in Helena representing the Chinook Food Pantry at a statewide ceremony. Dalton is the current director of the local food bank, since January, 2016, and Funk was the first director, serving from 2000 until she retired in late 2015. Organizers said there were 90+ guests who attended the recent Chinook Lions Club's annual Old-Timers' dinner. Sometime in the early 1980's club members invited a few local seniors to a club meeting and dinner to share memories about the area from the 'old days.' Let me preface this story by saying that there are log cabins in Zortman called the Buckhorn cabins. They are nice places to stay the night or a week. But that was not always so. The Malstrom EOD (Explosive Ordinance Division) was in the Chinook High School on Wednesday, April 12th to dispose of some volatile chemicals that had been sitting in the Chemistry storage room for many years. Picric acid and ethyl ether were the two containers taken away. The high school was evacuated prior to handling the chemicals.
