For Immediate Release, May 10, 2018 Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is proposing to begin treatment on approximately 20 acres of a cattail marsh on Sleeping Buffalo Area 8 Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Phillips Co., and is looking for public comment on the proposed action. The Jr High and High School track teams of Turner had their district meets in Havre this past week. Many of the High school athletes qualified for Divisionals to be held this week in Great Falls. The Jr, high held their meet in Havre on Saturday. It was a cool day but no rain. The kids did well and represented their school. WILD HORSE, Mont. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations announces the Port of Wild Horse will begin operating on its summer hour schedule of 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., daily, on May 15. The summer hours will continue until Sept. 30. The winter schedule of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. will resume on Oct. 1. The Blaine County Fair Board was notified recently of a $10,000 grant award to buy and wire 50 LED lights for the new indoor event center to be erected at the county fairgrounds. Producers are reminded to report prevented planting and failed acres in order to establish or retain FSA program eligibility for some programs. Producers should report crop acreage they intended to plant, but due to natural disaster, were prevented from planting. The Blaine County 4-H Teen Leaders hosted a carnival and spaghetti supper in the Chinook High gymnasium recently. The carnival and feed was both a fun time for kids and a fundraiser for the 13-18 year old 4-H members who make up the leadership group. Any 4-H student in the age group can chose to do the "leadership" project to qualify for the leadership team. Nurse Practitioner Lindsay Rucinsky spoke to the April gathering of the Cancer Support Group in Chinook. Rucinsky's topic was about diabetes and how certain cancers may be connected to conditions related to diabetes.
