Tom and Lucy Fairbank were to Colorado over Thanksgiving to visit Chris and Richard Humphreys and family. Max and Kirsti had a late Thanksgiving in Great Falls with NellieCederberg, and Dale and Lynda Cederberg last week. Virginia McCracken had hunters at her home the week before Thanksgiving. The second meeting of the Valley Clovers 4-H Meeting was called to order by president Brooke Elliott at 2 p.m. on Nov. 8 at Wallner Hall. There were 3 leaders, 24 members, and several guests present. Since a spring, 2015 announcement the National Guard facility in Chinook would be closed and declared surplus by fall, the fate of the two buildings on the east edge of town has been unclear. A few months ago the cities of Harlem, Chinook and Malta entered into an agreement to participate in a study of housing needs in the respective towns. According to Eryn Nissen, with Bear Paw Development, the study was awarded to the towns through a state grant with matching funds provided by Opportunity Link, a Havre-based agency that helps communities in an eleven county region deal with poverty issues. Drivers planning to access the border from central or northeast Montana will soon have fewer 24 hour crossing choices. Beginning December 27 the Port of Raymond will reduce its hours from round the clock to a new opening time of 8am each day. The upgrade to the Water Treatment Plant in Chinook involves a lot of different skills and procedures to complete the project. A recent installation required calling in divers who specialize in underwater work. An air scour, a set of perforated tubes that uses air pressure to clean out river silt at the intake to the plant from the river, had to be replaced along with tubing that takes pressurized air to the cleaning device. Clint Greytak became the sole proprietor of Bear Paw Realty in July, 2015 after buying out the other co-owners. He recently changed the name of the real estate company to Greytak Realty. Municipal elections were completed on November 3 for city council positions in both Harlem and Chinook. Between the two councils there were five seats to be filled—two in Harlem and three in Chinook. In Harlem, Mark Arensmeyer was an incumbent in Ward 2 West and Kim Hansen an incumbent for the seat representing Ward 1 East. Both candidates were unopposed.
