Hello! My name is Olivia Downs, and I am Blaine County Museum's new collection assistant. While I have been at the museum since July 2022 working on various projects, I am excited to now have a permanent place here at the museum! I was practically raised here in Chinook and graduated from CHS in 2015. Shortly after, I moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and obtained a bachelor's degree in Sociology and Anthropology. When asked what I wanted to do as a career, I always hoped I'd end up in a museum...

A stop at a suburban Seattle parking lot reminded me of the large number of crows in the Pacific Northwest. In the parking lot I could hear the familiar “caws” of foraging crows. Ten years ago, when my wife and I lived in Arlington, Washington (north of Seattle) every morning from my desk I could look out our second story window and see a small flock (called a “murder of crows”) working their way along the street, picking up bits of dropped food, forcing their way in to garbage bins set out for...

Jack Siemens and Chuck Wasser of the food bank happily collected and stocked what the children brought to the pantry. The Big Flat Catholic Youth would...

Tis the season for helping others! Donating blood is an incredible way to help those in need, and with the holiday season fast approaching, what better way is there to help those in need than with the gift of a blood donation? According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. While blood donations are needed all year long, unfortunately, demand for blood during the holidays coincides with lower availability of donors due to vacations and holiday activities, seasonal illness, school breaks, and severe...

Two things prompted me to write this story First was my recalling one year ago when I got taken for $400 on an "imposter scam" involving my buying gift cards for a friend's supposed dying cousin. Second stimulus was a news release from the regional FBI office in Salt Lake City describing an uptick in "Phantom Hacker attacks" (where a scammer poses as an unknown government or financial institution worker trying to prevent a hack or scam) that tend to focus on senior citizens. These two types of...

Not only do kids still get to wander the patch to find their own pumpkins for carving, they can use the kid-sized sling shots to shoot tennis balls at pumpkin t...

It's not obvious in the picture, but they are reclined on a short two step stairway that leads to the rostrum of the Montana...
