The Hays/Lodge Pole Archery Club is now in its third season and continues to grow. Recently, a first happened for the program; a perfect 50 was shot by freshman Ethan Jones. This past Tuesday, long-time Chinook teacher Kendal Harwood was sworn in by Justice Laird with family on hand to witness the event. Harwood first came to Chinook in the Winter of 2009, where he began substitute teaching while also serving as an assistant coach for the track team. The following year, he began teaching full time at Chinook's Meadowlark Elementary as a Kindergarten teacher. Austin Haney, most recently a summer Interpretive Ranger at the Bear Paw Battlefield, has been selected as a presenter for the Humanities Montana program. Haney recently joined about fifty presenters with Montana Conversations. Montana Conversations provides workshops and conversations on topics such as "current affairs, untold histories, native cultures, literature and more." Opening this weekend in conjunction with Montana Actors’ Theater (MCT), Claire Stoner presents Hill Country Revue. Late December, 2023, Jim Doyle was sworn in as the new Blaine County Justice of the Peace. He replaced outgoing Judge Perry Miller who resigned due to health issues. No stranger to the Justice Court office, Doyle was most recently the Justice Court Administrator. He has been with the Justice Court for nearly twenty-seven years. On Tuesday, December 12, the Chinook Chapter of the FFA travelled to Winifred for Winter District Competition. Members competed in Meats Evaluation, Veterinary Science, Agronomy, and Ag. Mechanics. The Turner Tornadoes hosted the North Country Mavericks in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday, December 19th to close out the 2023 season. A recent inspection found advanced spalling, cracking, and deterioration at the concrete beam ends in Span 1. Due to the severe conditions of the beam ends, the bridge can no longer carry traffic safely and reliably on the exterior beams. For public safety, traffic is restricted down to a single 12-foot lane centered on the bridge. CGI donates to more than 30 charities benefiting local communities to “Cultivate Growth” and care this holiday season. This year, CGI's Amy Dunn in Chinook, Montana and her team are giving money to the Senior Center in Chinook since their state funding was cut this year. Judge Perry Miller is resigning as Justice of the Peace for Blaine County effective December 31 of 2023. It's a post he's held for 29 years.
