Registration is now open for producers interested in learning about the Montana Farm to School Program. The program is designed to instruct farmers, ranchers, processors, along with other types of local food businesses in an effort to train them on various methods of distributing their products to school as well as child nutrition programs. Theresa Danley, of the Chinook Presbyterian Church, is now a Commissioned Lay Pastor (CLP). CLPs preach, lead worship services and perform other functions of ordained ministers. For Theresa it was the culmination of seven-plus years of course work, study, teaching, preaching and preparation. She did academic classes through the Dubuque Seminary (Presbyterian) in Iowa. The Blaine County Chapter of Big Sky 55+ met for the second time on February 15 at the Tripe E Meeting Room of the Blaine County Courthouse Annex in Chinook. Some of their topics included Medicare Advantage fraud and an update on the Montana Legislature. Their next meeting will be held on March 15 at 2:30 p.m. in the same location. The Chinook School Board addressed the Hartland Colony School Contract at its most recent meeting on Monday, February 13, 2023. Mr. Hofman is recommending we amend the Contract with Hartland (paragraph 3) to read that the District may close the school when enrollment is under 10 or the District may issue an assessment for every student the colony is short from 10. The Hays/Lodge Pole Archery Club recently completed its second season with the completion of their second annual Archery Tournament. Kraig Hansen retired as Fire Chief for the City of Chinook and Blaine County Fire Department on January 31, 2023. Hansen served for 20 years as Chief of the Chinook department and was Chief in Harlem for 13 years before joining the Chinook organization. His retirement capped a 47 year career as a volunteer firefighter. He will continue as Fire Warden for Blaine County. The Chinook JUMP Youth Group held their Annual 'SOUPer Bowl' this past Sunday at Wallner Hall. The faith based non-denominational youth group has used the event to raise funds through the years for a variety of different needs in the community.
