An exciting high school football season came to an end for the Chinook Sugarbeeters Saturday afternoon in Circle. In the opening round of the 8-Man Playoffs, the Beeters fell to the Circle Wildcats, 30-28.
Saturday's playoff game was a back-and-forth affair as Chinook led 8-6 late in the first quarter, but Circle took an 18-16 lead into halftime. Chinook battled back in the third, but the Beeters trailed going into the fourth.
Still, the Beeters had a chance to advance with one final drive. But with :32 left in the game, the Beeters had a pass intercepted to end the game, as the Wildcats advanced to the 8-Man Quarterfinals.
Also on Saturday, top seed and Northern champion Fort Benton beat Ekalaka 53-9 in Fort Benton. The Longhorns will face Ennis this Saturday in Fort Benton. The other 8-Man quarterfinals will feature St. Regis against Scobey, Flint Creek taking on Belt, and Circle squaring off against Seeley-Swan.
In the Six-Man Playoffs last Saturday, top-seeded Chester-Joplin-Inverness rolled to a 53-7 win over Bainville, while the Big Sandy Pioneers saw their season end with a 30-16 loss to Power-Dutton-Brady.
In the Six-Man Quarterfinals this Saturday, Jordan will face Grass Range/Winnett, PDB will travel to Absarokee, CJI will host Denton-Geyser-Stanford-Geraldine, and Lincoln will host Richey-Lambert.
