District 1B is tough in basketball, and this winter has been no different. Every night is a battle.
And last Friday night, the Chinook boys basketball team won a very tough battle with the Conrad Cowboys.
Chinook overcame an injury to leading scorer Ryan Bell and was able to beat Conrad 43-39 in a thrilling game.
The Sugarbeeters fought through being short-handed and used defense and rebounding to really hold off the Cowboys.
Offensively, the Beeters also got huge contributions from Jameson and Jefferson Norboe, who scored 17 and 11 points, respectively.
The victory over Conrad was big, but the Beeters couldn't keep things going as they ran into a tough Choteau squad on Saturday night.
On their home floor, the Beeters' offense struggled in a 55-33 defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs.
Chinook battled in the first half, and after outscoring Choteau 15-9 in the second quarter, the Beeters only trailed 27-24. However, the third quarter was Chinook's undoing as the Bulldogs went on a 14-0 run and essentially put the game out of reach.
Jameson Norboe scored 14 points for Chinook, which was short-handed.
It was also a split this past weekend for the Chinook girls.
On Friday night, the Beeters hit the road and destroyed the Conrad Cowgirls 69-13. The Beeters scored 33 points in the first quarter and never looked back in the easy 1B win.
Chinook made 13 3-pointers in the win and got a game-high 16 points from Kendall Fetter.
On Saturday night, the Chinook girls looked to win back at home but came up short against Choteau. In a key District 1B game, Chinook fell to the Bulldogs 49-37.
Chinook outscored Choteau in the second half, but the Beeters were trailing 24-12 at the half and could never fully catch up.
In the loss to Choteau, Charley Nissen had 13 points for the Beeters.
Both the Chinook boys and girls will be back in action this Friday when they travel to Rocky Boy. Chinook will return home to host the Shelby Coyotes in a 1B doubleheader on Saturday.
