The Juniors of Turner High School completed the 2022 Prom with nothing but great memories. A theme of a beach party decorated the school gymnasium with lei's, palm trees, shells, and flowers. The students in Kindergarten - Second grade enjoyed a day away from school to go to the Malta Museums. They toured the Phillips County Museum in the morning. Then after a yummy stop at the Dairy Queen for lunch, they toured the Dinosaur Museum. A Paleontologist was on hand to show the children around the museum. Turner School graduated four little students from the Kindergarten Class this past week. They came onto the stage with their green graduation caps. Earlier this year, the Turner school was awarded a grant for an after school program. Included in this program are numerous adults that have committed to teach a class or do a project. The Friends of the Pool and Park Foundation (FPPF) announced an upcoming fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, June 11. To coincide with the Chinook Swim Meet, the Foundation will be holding a Pulled Pork Dinner at 6:00 p.m. at the Eagles Club, located at 305 Indiana Street in Chinook. On May 5, Sheena Wortman, who teaches at Bear Paw Elementary School (BPES) in South Blaine County, learned she had won a Rural Teacher Appreciation Award from Hill County Electric Cooperative. Livestock losses due to predators has skyrocketed in the past 15 years. In 2007 the state legislature began the Livestock Loss Program. Early on the program compensated ranchers for their losses due to Wolves and Grizzly Bears and claims were mostly filed in the western part of the state. In 2019 Mountain Lions were added to the program's compensation annual budget. The compensation fund budgeted for livestock losses due to predators now stands at $300,000. On May 11, the Chinook Senior Center played host to a Poetry Jam. The event, which began at 1:00 p.m., was organized by Lois Butcher and featured ten presenters. Workers from CAT Graphics, a commercial sign company based in Great Falls, were onsite removing the old sign and installing a new one on May 3. In a news release on May 2, the Montana Department of Livestock (MDOL) announced that Montana now has eight flocks of birds with a confirmed infection of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). This report comes after HPAI was detected in a Pondera County flock. These are the first cases of HPAI reported in domestic poultry in Montana since 2015.
