This Chinook Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Fire Truck is parked with an extinguished burnt field behind it after firefighters successfully contained and extinguished the largest fire of the year to date in Blaine County. On July 15 and 16, crews were hard at work setting 85-foot utility poles for new arena lights at the Blaine County Fairgrounds. The project is a collaborative effort of several organizations and volunteers and will take approximately three weeks to complete. In the late spring I was walking along Stephens Road that borders the Kuper Memorial Cemetery northwest of Chinook. I noticed some construction equipment and workers around the water tower located on the highest part of the cemetery. I figured repair work was going on. June ended with a lot of heat and little moisture but that didn't stop many from putting up their first cutting of hay.
