Great Falls, MT - In June drought emergency was declared in 19 northcentral and eastern counties in the state by Governor Steve Bullock. In response to drought conditions in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota the USDA authorized emergency CRP grazing in those states. Our grand prize winners for the Summer Reading program are Ozzy Baker and Lizzy Baker in the preschool - grade 1 age group. These two each listened to 180 books this summer. In the grades 2-4 age group the winner is Orion Cuts the Rope who won by reading 85 books. Conan Cuts the Rope was the winner in the grades 5-6 category by reading 12 books. Congratulations! Just before last summer’s county fair began, the Blaine County Fair Board rolled out a new idea to create some greenspace at the fairgrounds. Speaking generally about the new Memory Lane, board member Dale Williams said, “The idea is to have a way for folks to plant a tree in honor or memory of a loved one.” During the 2017 fair a map of the fairgrounds was posted showing proposed locations for the trees. The Chinook Golf Course will host its 21st Annual Fireball Golf Tournament this Saturday, and has been the case the past several years a full field is expected. The tournament has been played with as many as 22 teams in the past but the optimal number is twenty and that is what can be expected this weekend. A rangeland monitoring workshop and electric fence demonstration was recently held at the Kleinjan Ranch west of Chinook. The focus was on techniques for monitoring the results of managed intensive grazing (MIG).
