Reporter's note: I appreciate when readers catch and share a mistake in an article I've written. Sometimes I make a serious misinterpretation of the facts and sometimes it's a less critical inaccuracy-like an incorrect date or the slightly misspelled name of a person or a place. Still, I like to put things right if I can. In the June 1, 2016 story about the Japanese families that came to Blaine County during World War II, much of the war-time experiences of the Tom Matsuoka family were...

The reason for the ride Schindler was riding to raise funds...

I don’t suppose I really knew that such a thing existed but if I did, I would not think of calling it a Piastra Radiante in Ghisa Smaltata. Knowing that it is a flat plate of cast iron, glazed on one side, about the size of a dessert plate, I wondered how it got its name. Does piastra have something to do with pastry? The consonants sort of match up with those in patisserie, which the French unabridged says does mean cake shop or confectioner’s shop. A further search reveals that piastra means griddle, hot plate, iron plate, or waffle iro...
We have come a long way in the celebrating of the Fourth of July in this neck of the woods. It used to be that homesteaders would fire a gun out the front door of their houses early in the morning of the 4th and that would be their celebration of the Independence of the United States. After that was the time of the grand rodeos, some of which linger to this day. For years and years the Fourth of July Rodeo at Warrick, on the south side of the Bear Paw Mountains was the place to be. I have talked to many old time cowboys who went on to do great...
