  • Pastors Corner: The sheep follow him

    Apr 29, 2026

I used to teach English to Korean kindergarteners in Seoul, South Korea. This was an immersive program, so the kids were only supposed to hear English during the day, which made it ok that I couldn’t speak Korean. But at the start of the school year, the kids couldn’t speak or understand any English, either. This became a problem when it was lunchtime, and seven different classes all came together at the bathrooms to wash hands before tromping to the cafeteria. It was chaos. Absolute chaos in the beginning of every year as dozens and doz...

  • Hello God, Its me Mara

    Mara|Apr 29, 2026

You know, Lord, recently, having just read Psalms 16:11, “You show me the path of life. In your presence there is fullness of joy”; we were reminded of that verse when we went in a ‘Fast Food Place’ where the gal at the counter saw a couple come in the door, behind us; she smiled and said, “Hi Joy – what are you having today, the same as last week?” They then spoke so quietly, no other words were heard. Then an older gal came through a backroom door, looked, smiled and also said, “Hi, Joy, nice to see you again this week! Jenny will take care...

  • Living the Unscheduled Life

    Sondra Ashton|Apr 29, 2026

"Sondrita, how's your wonderful retired life?" That's a regular question from our rancho-helper-with-garden-and-more. It is a good reminder that life is full of wonderfulness. I like the wonder of my life, as in "I wonder what today might bring me." Not all gifts from Day come gift-wrapped with ribbons but all gifts bring an element of wonder. Take yesterday, for example. I'd invited two neighboring women over for breakfast, loosely scheduled, of pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream,...

  • Fire on the Mountain

    Sondra Ashton|Apr 22, 2026

Kathy arranged for the six of us women to go to the Laguna Colorado for my birthday dinner. Four of us piled into Kathy's car. John agreed to bring the other two and drop them off. We arrived at our favorite little restaurant under the large palapa by the water. The owner treats us like family and the food is good, the laguna full of all manner of water birds. What's not to like! Kathy, being the youngest, popped out of her car and immediately announced, "Smoke". By the time the rest of us groan...

  • Hello God It's me, Mara

    Mara|Apr 22, 2026

You know, Lord, friend, Adam, shared how he wanted to stay close to You, Lord. He’d written: “I work at a hospital with Mike, who said he’d prayed for patients and every one of them has died, even the baby who died on Christmas; why would God allow such a thing? You know, Adam, after that I just couldn’t believe anymore. But not believing gave me real peace, because I don’t have to figure out God anymore; I don’t have to give anyone an account for why God does anything, right?” “Mike got a phone call and left – so alone, I tried to process...

  • Hello God, It's me Mara

    Mara|Apr 22, 2026

You know, Lord, one day, a list-writer’s name popped up; years BACK, C.B. and I were friends – she’s gone off to be with Jesus, but back then, she said; “Guess what. I’m a list writer; ‘LISTS’ help me feel like I’m more organized than I really am. So, just sharing – that’s if you have a few moments, kiddo. Remember every Monday morning I’d call; we’d talk about five things we hoped to accomplish that week? The first four were always the same: 1. Make progress on a current writing project. 2. Bible Study. 3. Progress on my current knitting pro...

  • Ruins at the Ruina

    Sondra Ashton|Apr 15, 2026

Every time I've taken the bus on the toll road to the coast, when we pass by the outskirts of the mountain town of Ixtlan del Rio, I've noticed the sign that points toward "Ruina". That's all it says," Ruina", a blur seen from the bus window. That little sign was enough to make me want to see the ruins. I've been to Guachimontones in Teuchitlan and to the Palacio de Ocomo in Oconahua several times. These sites are a short drive from home, either direction. Both are fascinating places that fill...

  • "Torn in Two"

    Rev. Edroy 'Curt' Curtis|Apr 15, 2026

Jesus Christ is quoted in MARK 3:25 as saying: “25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” Let’s take a look at how the Old Testament Kingdom of Israel ended up being divided into two kingdoms. Here’s the scenario: King Solomon, the third king of Israel (after King Saul and King David), died, designating his son, Rehoboam, as the next king. The tribe of Judah accepted this arrangement - but the other tribes of Israel, because of King Solomon’s heavy taxation and widespread conscripted labor for his grand projects,...
