Chinook golfers continue to perform well on the links, 7 qualified for the State C

The Chinook High School Golf Team had another superb week on the course as the girls won the Shelby Invitational on Thursday and qualified their fifth team member for the State C in Seely, March 15-16 Friday in Fort Benton. The boys qualified their second for the State C as well in Fort Benton.
Thursday morning seven golfers headed to the Marias Valley Golf Course in Shelby.
The girls contingent included senior Ashley MacLeod, junior Alyssa Gruszie, sophomore Hailey Bell and sophomore Crystal Hofer. The boys were senior Isaac Bell, senior Ross Reed and freshman Daniel Semenze,
The girls entered the week with four qualified for the State Meet.
Bell and MacLeod punched their tickets the first meet of the season. Gruszie and Hofer the following week. In the process the girls have found themselves on top of the team standings at the end of meets.
Thursday afternoon was no different. Bell has had a fantastic season for the Sugarbeeters and finished atop the leader board. Joining her in a tie for first place was Gruszie.
Bell went out in 54 and came in with a 46 to finish with a 100. Gruszie went out in 49 and came in with a 51 to post a score of 100 as well.
MacLeod (56-47 103) and Hofer (52-51 103) were right behind.
In Class C teams play four and score the three best rounds to determine their team score. Chinook finished with a 303 to win the girls title.
For the boys, Bell finished with a 59-53 112, Reed 81-70 151 and Semenze 63-66 129.
Friday in Fort Benton senior Kendra McMaster became the fifth girl to qualify for the State C after firing a round of 119. Sophomore Anna Getten recorded a score of 154.
The boys team qualified sophomore Ethan MacLeod Friday in Fort Benton. His effort of 98 was two better than the qualifying standard and led the Sugarbeeter boys.
Also in Fort Benton, junior Erik Pula shot a 113, freshman Braden Eoff a 118, sophomore Reese Elliot a 127 and sophomore Benton Elliot a 128.
Saturday the team headed to the Marian Hills Golf Course in Malta.
The 'Beeter girls were represented by MacLeod who recorded a 63-53 116 on the day.
The boys were led by Eoff who recorded his third top five finish of the season. Eoff finished in a three way tie for third after posting a 50-53 103. Following a chip-off Braden was awarded fifth place. Right behind was MacLeod with a 55-49 104 and senior Chase Moxley with a 53-55 108. Moxley has already qualified for the State C.
This weekend teams will be Harlem on Friday for the Wildcat Invitational. Saturday the Sugarbeeters will host their third tournament of the season.
The Northern B Divisional will be in Wolf Point on Tuesday, May 7. The State B Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 14-15 in the Missoula area. The girls will be at the Canyon River Golf Club while the boys will be at the Ranch Club.
