Sweet Home Easter Egg Hunt Makes Triumphant Return!

April 7, 2021

There were plenty of smiles to go around Saturday afternoon at the Sweet Memorial Nursing Home in Chinook. After being forced to cancel their Annual Easter Egg Hunt a year ago, roughly 60-70 kids cleared the grounds around the Nursing Home of nearly 1,000 eggs. The parents were happy, the residents were happy and the sun was shining!

The Annual Easter Egg Hunts returned this past weekend after being forced to cancel a year ago due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Thankfully, many of the hunts around the region returned, and the weather couldn't have been better.

Friday morning the Chinook Youth Group JUMP, along with the Chinook Alliance Church, sponsored a day of fun at the Sweet Memorial Park next to the City Pool. The morning fun included a special guest visitor, and an appearance by the Easter Bunny himself.

The festivities got started with the arrival of the Easter Bunny and the traditional Easter Egg hunt. 1,000 Eggs were distributed around the park with several members from JUMP assisting the K-6 egg hunters.

After the eggs were found the kids were reminded that Easter is really about Jesus and that the egg hunting is a bonus. Everyone gathered in the Girl Scout house where they found a special visitor, a Guard watching over an empty tomb. The Guard, Chinook Alliance Pastor Ritch Grimes, told the story of the Resurrection of Jesus.

Music was then enjoyed by all and the group had a race that involved an egg and a spoon. Everyone then enjoyed a sack lunch and the Easter Bunny (Jackson Nordboe) even got to play a little basketball.

Meanwhile the Sweet Home Activity Department, aided by the great help of some of the residents spent many hours decorating and filling nearly 1,000 eggs for the Sweet Home's Annual Easter Egg Hunt.

After not being able to hold the hunt last year, it was a huge thing for the residents to be able to enjoy watching this year, and of course the kids always have fun.

Sweet Memorial Nursing Home Administrator Rebecca Shackelford was very excited to be able to have the hunt this spring, "I was so happy to be able to do it this year after having to skip it last year. I think the nice weather helped ensure a good turn out. It was a beautiful day and to have the chance for some of the residents to get outside and watch the kids was wonderful!"

The hunt took place all around the Sweet Home giving residents multiple locations to watch from. Some residents even journeyed outside to be with the kids, and some had family on hand that they got to spend time with.

There were four groups in all. The 1-3 year olds took their turn on the south side of the building. The 4-5 were hunting eggs on the east side, while the 6-7 year olds were on the north side. The oldest egg hunters were to the west. The residents were all smiles watching the kids gather the eggs.
