You will see a new face at the library. Elle Puckett recently joined our staff as the library clerk. Elle comes to us with substantial library experience, so she will be able to help patrons with just about any need that may arise. We welcome Elle to our staff.

The Summer Reading Program officially came to an end August 13th. We had 78 kids register for the program. Of those we had 35 who turned in reading logs totaling a whopping 636 hours of reading time. After hours were tallied and the top reader was identified names were drawn for prizes. January Jensen was the top reader in grades K-6 with 88 hours of reading. She was the recipient of the after-hours pizza party. Katherine Kropf was the winner of the preschool drawing, Aubrey Kaulk won the Solar Robot, the Water War Game was won by Blake Miller, Karl Schmitke was the winner of the Montana History Activity book and project bag, Pepper Harwood was the winner of the 1500-piece Art & Craft box. Linae Jensen was the winner in the adult drawing. We had 9 adults enter and 66 books were read. Congratulations to all the lucky winners. We had a very successful Summer Reading Program, and we thank everyone who participated in the activities and reading. A huge thanks to all the people in the community who did a presentation for us.

Our Fall programs will begin Tuesday September 7th. Mondays will be Hangout for grades 7 and 8 from 3:30 to 4:30. Story Time for ages 6 and under will be Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Hangout for grades 5 and 6 will be Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30. LEGO Club will be from 3:30 to 4:30 on Thursdays. This year we will be offering a movie on Fridays after school is dismissed and all school aged kids are welcome to attend. We will start the movies at approximately 12:15. Movies will run 90 minutes to 2 hours. We are hoping that providing this service will help families deal with the early out on Fridays. We will have the movie titles posted on Facebook, in the paper and on our website, with the run time each week.

We have one non-fiction book and four suspense novels ready for checkout this week. In “Humankind: A Hopeful History” author Rutger Bregman argues that humans thrive in a crisis and that our innate kindness and cooperation have been the greatest factors in our long-term success. From the real-life “Lord of the Flies” to the solidarity in the aftermath of the Blitz, the hidden flaws in the Stanford prison experiment to the true story of twin brothers on opposite sides who helped Mandela end apartheid, Bregman shows us that believing in human generosity and collaboration isn't merely optimistic—it's realistic. Moreover, it has huge implications for how society functions. When we think the worst of people, it brings out the worst in our politics and economics. But if we believe in the reality of humanity's kindness and altruism, it will form the foundation for achieving true change in society, a case that Bregman makes convincingly with his signature wit, refreshing frankness, and memorable storytelling.

The year 1920 comes in with a roar in “Blind Tiger” by Sandra Brown. Prohibition is the new law of the land, but murder, mayhem, lust, and greed are already institutions in the Moonshine Capitol of Texas. “The Therapist” by B.A. Paris is a psychological thriller. When Alice and Leo move into a newly renovated house in The Circle, a gated community of exclusive houses, it is everything they’ve dreamed of. But appearances can be deceptive. As Alice is getting to know her neighbors, she discovers a devastating secret about her new home, and begins to feel a strong connection with Nina, the therapist who lived there before. Alice becomes obsessed with trying to piece together what happened two years before. But no one wants to talk about it. Her neighbors are keeping secrets and things are not as perfect as they seem. In “Just One Look” by Lindsay Cameron, a young woman’s escalating obsession with a seemingly perfect man leads her down a dangerous path. “The Cellist” by Daniel Silva is a timely and explosive new thriller featuring art restorer and legendary spy Gabriel Allon.

We have three new movies available. “Here Today” starring Tiffany Haddish and Billy Crystal, “It Was Always You” a Hallmark movie, and “Queen Bees” starring Anne-Margaret, and James Caan.
