'Beeters Get Past Fort Benton, Enter 9C Tournament as No. 2 Seed

Chinook senior Allison Powell scores a third quarter basket in the 'Beeters hard fought 46-43 win over Fort Benton Saturday night.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters concluded the regular season Saturday night at home against the Fort Benton Longhorns. Chinook held on for a 46-43 win to end a two game losing streak. Chinook fell to Hays/Lodge Pole in overtime on Monday and then to the North Star Knights Friday night in Gildford, 46-39.

Friday night in Gildford the Sugarbeeters started strong, taking a 9-4 lead into the second quarter. Freshman Alexus Seymour scored six in the second quarter to help the 'Beeters maintain the lead and take a 19-13 advantage into halftime.

Chinook maintained their advantage to start the second half getting a triple from Seymour and five points from sophomore Hallie Neibauer. The 'Beeters would take a 30-22 lead into the fourth quarter of action. North Star turned the tables down the stretch, outscoring the 'Beeters 24-9 the final eight minutes to earn a 46-39 win. Seymour led the 'Beeters with 12 points.

Friday in their final contest of the regular season the 'Beeters again got off to the fast start. Junior Bree Swanson and Seymour each connected from distance early on the help Chinook take a 11-3 lead after one quarter. Swanson score eight more in the second and sophomore Britton Elliot added six to give Chinook a 28-18 halftime lead.

Chinook saw the Longhorns cut the lead to six, 39-33 at the end of three but dug their heals in down the stretch. Neibauer scored nine second half points to provide the 'Beeters enough offense to secure a hard fought 46-43 win over Fort Benton.

Neibauer finished the contest with a team high 15 points. Elliot added 13 points to the 'Beeter total and Swanson contributed 11.

The 'Beeters conclude the regular season with a 9-4 conference mark and an 11-5 overall record. The Sugarbeeters will be the No. 2 Seed at this weeks District 9C Tournament and will begin play Thursday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. against the No. 7 Seed Big Sandy Pioneers.
