Wildcats, Thunderbirds Birds Run in Havre, Hays/Lodge Pole Hosts Invitation

The Harlem Wildcat Cross Country team is starting to come around and performed very well in Havre on Monday and Hays on Wednesday. Senior Landen Gray, senior D'lonte Farrar, junior Moses Lawrence and senior Marley Stewart run at Beaver Creek Golf Course in Havre on Monday.

The Harlem Wildcats and Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds Cross Country Teams took part in a pair of meets this past week. Monday the teams were in Havre for the Box Elder/Rocky Boy Invitational held at the Beaver Creek Golf Course. Wednesday the Thunderbirds hosted their own Invitational running through the beautiful Mission Canyon.

The Beaver Creek Golf Course is a fairly level course and gives runners a good opportunity to really test themselves. Harlem senior Landon Gray led the contingent with another solid effort. Gray completed the course in 21:54.

Gray started the season with a 25:04 effort in Cut Bank and has been making strides each race since. His best finish thus far came three weeks ago at the Havre Invitational with a time of 21:11.65. Wednesday at the Thunderbird Invite, Gray took on the challenging course and finished first in the field with a time of 23:47.29.

Hays/Lodge Pole senior Daniel Henry has been running alongside Gray for much of the season and was right there again this week. On Monday Henry completed the Beaver Creek Course in 22:39 to earn a sixth place finish. Wednesday Henry was second in a photo finish to Gray clocking in at 23:47.56.

Henry has had a good season so far with his best finish coming at the Scottie Invitation where he crossed the finish line in 21.10.4. Henry also turned in a solid effort at the Havre Invitational at the Prairie Farms Golf Course. Henry finished in 21:41.47 in what was his first race of the season.

Senior D'Lonte Farrar finished ninth for the Wildcats in Havre on Monday with an effort of 22:59. Wednesday in Hays he completed the course in 24:27 to finish fourth. Harlem junior Moses Lawrence turned in a time of 23:15 on Monday to finish tenth and then Wednesday clocked in at 24:16 to earn a third place finish. Senior Kelbi Bigby and Marley Stewart finished tenth and twelfth on Wednesday. Stewart was twentieth on Monday. Senior Amilia Blackcrow finished tenth in Havre and fourth Wednesday in Hays.

Hays/Lodge Pole and Harlem will now turn their attention to the final two meets of the regular season. This Saturday both teams will compete in Malta and then conclude the regular season with the Harlem Invitational on Friday, October 14.

Teams across the state will conclude their season at the All Class State Cross Country Meet on Missoula on Saturday, October 22. All Blaine County Cross Country runners have met the qualifying standard for the state meet and are eligible to attend.
