One of the specialty exhibits at the Blaine County Fair during fair week, August 3-August 9, was a patriotic display of quilts and potholders created by the Block Builders Quilt Guild. After 86 wonderful years, Jack Siemens peacefully passed away on August 7, with his wife and son at his side. Jack was born on March 9, 1940, in Havre, Montana, to Jacob and Laura Siemens. He grew up on a ranch outside of Savoy. The homestead was near Savoy Creek, where Jack learned to ride horses, do chores, and drive a car at 13 years old. The Havre High football and volleyball teams are about to begin the new fall sports season. But the hard work is already underway. Havre started football and volleyball practice last week, and the Ponies will put the early work to the test with the annual Blue/White Scrimmages this Saturday. On Saturday, August 8, Hike Leader Dave Lewis guided a group of six hikers all from Havre on a trip along the Windy Mountain Trail in the Highwood Mountains. Before setting out, the group met at Thain Creek Campground at 9:45 a.m. Hikers trekked moderate to difficult terrain with a 1,660 foot elevation gain on the Windy Mountain Loop. Sarah "Sally" Ann Huber Fuhrman died at 5:25pm on August 11, 2026 of a massive stroke surrounded by her family. Sally would have been 75 years old next month.
