Tymbuk 2 Café and Steakhouse celebrates 'soft opening'

Priscilla Heflin created these table top lamps as part of her décor for the recently opened Timbuk 2 Café and Steakhouse in downtown Chinook. The lamps were done with pen and ink and are placed on tables, with table cloths, for dinner each evening at the new eatery.

The Tymbuk 2 Café and Steakhouse opened last week to what manager Cindy Henderson described as a 'soft opening' with a grand opening to follow sometime later. The opening marked an extended process of remodeling and reconfiguring the former Past Time Bar, a long time business on Indiana Street in downtown Chinook.

When first interviewed about the purchase of the Past Time, Priscilla Heflin, the owner, said one of her main goals was to open a café and steakhouse. The process took several months to come to pass, starting with deconstruction, then moving to the construction stage. Work on the bar, south of the three main rooms, was completed last summer. Part of that remodel involved opening up the middle room, to the bar, and providing an improved venue to host visiting bands and hold dances.

The north most room, with its own separate entrance, is where the newly opened café and steakhouse is located. Henderson was on duty (Heflin was recovering from a cold) and gave a short tour of the new dining room. Owner Heflin chose a western motif for the new room. Having an artistic streak herself, she painted one large mural on the north wall and several others throughout the new room. Heflin also did a series of table top lamps, with line drawings of cowboy and western scenes on the shades, a nice touch when the table cloths come out for evening diners.

Henderson said the café and steakhouse hours are "6 a.m. to bar closing," the latter dependent on bar business on any given night. Workers were installing a large screened TV in the dining room and Henderson explained, "That's for our early morning coffee drinkers who want to check the weather and news." During dinner the TV is used as a sound system for dining music.

The "Journal" congratulates the Tymbuk 2 Café and Steakhouse on its opening and looks forward to the grand opening to be held at a later date.
