What 'cher point?

Not a lot of sports going on right now. NBC is broadcasting the most, with their Olympic Trails. The Olympics will be upon us soon and that will make for some great viewing in our living rooms as it is doubtful that many of us will be heading to Brazil where the nuts come from to once again use an old, old joke that wasn’t very funny sixty years ago.

I prefer the winter Olympics. I think I have shared that with you readers before.

It is just that I love to see snow events and be snuggled up in my living room with a brandy in my hand and a fire going in the fireplace when I watch them. They look so cold and, like so many of us do so often in Montana, I am sitting inside beating the elements! That is really living.

This year I even invested in a snow blower so instead of getting the snow away from my front door by sweeping or shoveling, I simply plug in the blower and away and into the neighbors yard goes all my snow. How much better can it get than that?

I do have a beef with events that happen here in Montana. We have so much in the way of sports and get so little coverage it is pathetic. Our ski areas are first class, and yet you would think that there is not a single ski hill north of the Wyoming line. Same with football and basketball. We play world class football and basketball in our high schools and in the Frontier League and in the Big Sky League. And yet no one ever hears of us.

Well, that is not quite true. A couple of years ago the Audience Network started broadcasting Montana football in the Big Sky League and that is wonderful for those of us who cannot get over to Missoula and sit in the stands on game day.

But as to other sports, it is like we don’t even exist. Some would say that is good and to leave Montana just as it is and maybe they would be right. I would just like someone in a national magazine or on national television to one time say what a great hill the skiing is in Whitefish. That would make my day.

On another subject, the Golden State Warriors have hired Oklahoma City star Kevin Durant.

Will that make a difference for Golden State next year? You bet! If Golden State plays Cleveland again for the championship, Kevin Durant could turn the whole thing around and bring the Warriors a championship trophy! Just a thought.

That’s my story and I am sticking to it. Go Thunderbirds!
