Harlem Library to showcase additions to Children's collection February 13th-17th

 

ght new additions to the children's collection the week of February 13-17. These new books were acquired through a grant from The Pilcrow Foundation, whose "mission is to provide new, quality, hardcover children's books to rural public libraries across the United States."

The Children's Book Project grant is available every three years to libraries. Fortunately, the Harlem Public Library has been the recipient of this grant in years past through what was formally The Libri Foundation.

The conditions of the grant state the library must find local sponsors to provide one-third of the funding dollars. The Friends of the Harlem Public Library graciously agreed to provide this contribution. With the $800 from The Pilcrow Foundation and $400 from the Friends of the Library $1200 worth of new titles were obtained for the library.

In addition over $400 worth of children's math and science titles were provided by a generous donation from Mr. Hal Berenson and Mrs. Laura Ackerman from Colorado. The library acknowledges with deep appreciation the charitable giving of all the donors.

The public is encouraged to stop by the library to see these wonderful books on display the week of February 13-17. There are fiction picture books, juvenile fiction chapter books, as well as nonfiction titles. Inside each book is a book plate identifying The Pilcrow Foundation as well as the additional sponsors. Parents and children will want to see the new books that are ready for check out. Refreshments will be served all week.

This celebration is part of the month-long observance of "Love Your Library Month."
