Meghan Benenate is the new Assistant City Clerk for the city of Chinook. A native of Florida, she and her husband, Anthony, have lived in Chinook for about two years and are restoring an old house they bought here. She started her new position at the end of January.

Meghan Benenate joined the city of Chinook on January 23 as the new Assistant City Clerk. The native of Jacksonville, Florida, came to Chinook about two years ago. She and her husband, Anthony, moved to Chinook from Watford City, North Dakota. They moved to North Dakota following Anthony's job in the oil patch, where he still works.

While a teenager and living in Florida, she visited Big Sky resort with her family. She said, "I decided at that point I would someday live in Montana." Benenate graduated from the University of Central Florida, in Orlando, with a Bachelor of Science in psychology. Explaining her choice of a college major she said, "My interest was integrating human needs with how things are designed." After graduating she worked as a behavioral therapist at a school for autistic children.

She brings a varied work background to her new job. Meghan said, "Through school I worked for Old Navy (clothing chain) for 10 years. That was great experience dealing with the public and learning customer service principles." Since coming to Chinook she's worked at the Eagles Club, done substitute teaching and writes periodically for the" Blaine County Journal."

Meghan said she was attracted to the job with the city because it involved "working with numbers and computers-both of which I enjoy because of the challenge." After two weeks on the job she added, "I really love it here. I enjoy learning about the city and the challenge of learning all the new systems involved in operating the city."

The driving force that brought Meghan and Anthony to Chinook was the purchase of a house they wanted to restore. Meghan explained the house was owned by a co-worker of Anthony's over in the oil patch. She said in the warm weather she and Anthony spend time working on the house and are in the process of buying a second house to live in while they work on the older house. They also enjoy exploring the local area doing hikes and sightseeing.

Carol Floren, City Clerk and Meghan's supervisor, said she was, "Excited to have Meghan on board." The "Journal" welcomes Meghan to her new job and wishes the Benenates the best.
