Turner senior Ella Billmayer has been a staple of the Tornado attack for five years now.

The Turner Tornadoes closed out the regular season with a 56-38

win over the Big Sandy Pioneers Friday night. Thursdays contest with

the Box Elder Bears was forfeited after school officials determined

the inclement weather in the area made travel unsafe for the teams.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters dropped a hard fought contest Friday to

the North Star Knight 55-48. The Sugarbeeters and Knight combined

for 85 free throw attempts with North Star taking 45 and Chinook 40,

both made 22 in the contest. Friday the 'Beeters fell to Fort Benton

63-30

The Thunderbirds and Wildcats each dropped a pair of contest over

the weekend as the regular season concluded.

The District 9C tournament gets underway this week at Havre

High School beginning with the girls action starting at 1 p.m. this

afternoon.

The Box Elder Bears enter the tournament as the number one

seed after going undefeated in the regular season and never really

being challenged. The Fort Benton Longhorns finished the season

11-3 in conference play and earn the number two spot by virtue of a

tiebreaker over the number three seed North Star Knights.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters claim the number four spot and the

Turner Tornadoes the number 5 seed and will face this afternoon at

2:30 p.m.

The Sugarbeeters finished the regular season with a 9-9 overall

record and a 6-8 mark in conference play while the Tornadoes

finished 10-8 overall and we're also 6-8 in conference play.

The Sugarbeeters earned the higher seed by virtue of a larger

margin of victory in their head-to-head win over Turner just two

weeks ago. The two teams split the regular-season match-ups.

Chinook topped Turner the last weekend of January by 11 while

Turner earned a eight-point victory in early January.

The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds have grown tremendously

over the course of the season and wound up as the number seven seed

entering the tournament and will take on the Fort Benton Longhorns

in first round action tonight at 8:30.

The Box Elder Bears are clearly the favorites to advance to the

Northern C Divisional but the number two and number three spots

Harlem freshman Kailee Henry will look to help her team advance at the District 2B Thursday when they open play against Glasgow at 8:00 p.m.

are not as clear-cut.

The Knights and the Longhorns both 11-3 in regular season games

but we're challenged in contests during the regular season by the

Sugarbeeters, Tornadoes and Thunderbirds during the season.

The Tornadoes look to advance to the Northern C Divisional for

the first time since returning to action five years ago. The Chinook

Sugarbeeters are looking to make the trip to the Four Seasons arena

in Great Falls for the seventh consecutive season. Both teams are

capable of doing what needs to be done to advance their season one

more week but as we all know anything goes come tournament time.
