The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds headed to Bozeman this week to take part in the Montana Class C State Boys Basketball tournament being played at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse on the Campus of Montana State University.

The Thunderbirds bring a 22-2 record into the tournament and will be looking to cap their seasons with three more wins on the big stage.

Both Thunderbird losses came to teams also represented at the state tournament. Hays/Lodge Pole blazed through the District 9C unscathed with a perfect 14-0 record. At the District 9 C tournament the Box Elder Bears clipped the Thunderbirds in the championship.

Hays/Lodge Pole turned the tables at the Northern C Divisional edging Box Elder 65-61 to earn the Northern C championship and the North No. 1 seed in the tournament.

The Thunderbirds other loss came way back in December at the Native American Classic to the Arlee Warriors, a team also in the field at the State C. Arlee, champions of the Western C faced a Thunderbird team just finding their way and with out the services of junior Lance Strike at the time.

The Thunderbirds will open play Thursday afternoon against the Fairview Warriors at 2:00 p.m. a win would have them facing the winner of Arlee and Plenty Coups. That contest begins a 12:30 p.m.

The other side of the bracket has Bridger taking on Manhattan Christian at 6:30 p.m. with the night cap pitting Box Elder versus Scobey.

If you are not able to make the long trip to Bozeman the opportunity is available to watch the games live on-line by logging in the MHSA website and clicking the NFHS Network link on the top right corner.
