What 'Cher Point?

June 14, 2017

With the NBA Finals between Golden State and Cleveland all but over at this writing and I will be having more about that next week, but with that over I am really looking forward to football season. It is the middle of June and the start of college is not far away and that will lead to a whole bunch of wonderful college games and NFL games too.

Matter of fact, I do see a tad of football news in various newspapers around the area even now. For example there was a Patriots story this last week. Patriot’s tight end Rob Gronkowski is just getting over back surgery and says he will be ready to play this fall.

Gronkowski led the league with 17 touchdown receptions in the 2011 season. Since then he has been plagued with problems. He could not even play in the last Super Bowl when the Patriots engineered their huge come back from down many points. If Gronkowski is healthy it will make a huge difference in the Patriot’s game plan.

In the NFL teams to watch will be the Cowboys with their very good quarterback, Atlanta once again, and I think the Seahawks could go all the way this year.

The Patriots could win two in a row, that mainly depends on Tom Brady and how his playing goes this season. A sleeper might be the Vikings who seem to be getting closer to a playoff hunt each year.

Don’t look for much from San Francisco this season but maybe next season they will be back with a vengeance.

I am also excited that there is going to be a team playing in Las Vegas. That means a lot to us out here in the hinterlands. Flying into Vegas from say Great Falls is cheap and quick and gives us another team that is easily seen. Add that team to the Vikings, the Seahawks and the Broncos and that gives Montana a broad NFL venue.

So, what about the Broncos? Not yet my people are telling me but maybe soon.

Closer to home I wonder if finally this will be the season of Northern? I saw some sparks in them last year that made me think that maybe this year might see more sparks yet.

Over in Grizzly country, look for a better year than last year and look for the Bobcats to do better as well.

Oh, yes, and this appears to be going to be a good year for Rocky as well.

Can I pick a Super Bowl winner this far out? No I can’t but if I was a betting man and I was absolutely forced to bet or leave Montana forever, I would bet that one of the two teams in the next Super Bowl will be the Patriots but I would not like to make that bet this early.

That’s my story and I am sticking to it. Go Thunderbirds!
