What 'cher point?

Lots of strange things happened in the wonderful world of football this last weekend. I had gotten interested in six man football when Big Sandy started doing so well this year and I thought that if there was a team to beat it would be Valier who is continually a power house for six man.

Not so this year. In the end of the season it was Westby-Grenora beating Valier 59 to 19. I still can’t believe that one.

Then the Griz took on Northern Colorado in Missoula and beat them 44 to 14. I knew that the Griz would win that game but not by that much. Way to go Griz!

Then, of all things it was the Bobcats losing to Northern Arizona by a point. That score was 37 to 36 and Bobcat coach Jeff Choate said he felt sorry for his team who has lost several very close games this season. This is Choate’s second season with the Bobcats.

The Frontier Conference went sort of loony too this weekend. Rocky actually beat Western in overtime. That score was 48 to 42. Then Carroll turned around and lost in overtime to Eastern Oregon 41 to 34. Montana Tech lost to Southern Oregon 24 to 10. That was sort of a shocker as well. About the only team to do as expected was Northern who lost to the College of Idaho 45 to 22.

While watching the Griz game in Missoula, I did notice one thing and that was that there was not a full house. The announcers commented on that too and said that Griz officials said that it was due to it being hunting season.

I am not so sure about that. Football has had a bad name for a couple of years ago since Tom Brady’s deflate gate and this year the NFL not insisting that players stand during the National Anthem has not helped people watching the game.

I think that people are more than a little fed up with football. I know of several who do not watch any more. That is not for me, I love the game too much to not watch but I do realize that there should be some changes made!

I did hear some sports wags the other day saying that the Super Bowl was going to be Philadelphia, Pittsburgh or New England. Another disagreed and said that Pittsburgh is too flaky to win it this year. New England and Pittsburgh are both on the same side of the ledger so that would lead one to think that it might be a New England/ Philadelphia Super Bowl

I am not there yet. I still have hopes for Seattle with its 6 and 3 record and what about those new LA Rams with their 6 and 2 record? It looks fairly wide open to me right now.

How about some predictions? It is the Brawl of the Wild next Saturday when Missoula heads to Bozeman to get back the Continental Divide trophy. Matter of fact Missoula is so certain about getting it back that they remodeled a locker room and have a special place just for it.

It might be a close game but lets give that Brawl to the Griz this year.

In the mighty NFL on Thursday night it is the Steelers over the Titans. On Sunday it is the Jags over the Browns, the Pack over the Ravens and the Cards over the Texans.

It is the Dolphins over the Buccaneers, the Rams over the Vikings and the Chiefs over the Giants.

It is the Redskins losing to the Saints, the Bills beating the Chargers and the Broncos over the Bengals.

The Patriots beat the Raiders, the Eagles beat the Cowboys and the Seahawks beat the Falcons on Monday night.

That’s my story and I am sticking to it. Go Thunderbirds!
