Blaine County Library

April 10, 2019

Be sure to stop in this week and help us celebrate National Library Week. We have door prizes! National Library Week is also the time we learn the top 10 most challenged books of the last year. The 2018 list has 11 books instead of the usual 10 and you can come in and take a look at the list!

During the month of April, the display table will have a selection of Montana books. This is a selection of the best of Montana; including the top ten must read fiction books set in Montana and by Montana authors and the best of Montana history. You will also find this year’s Montana Book Award winners in the display.

We have a couple of movies available for checkout this week. On the Basis of Sex was inspired by the powerful true story of a young Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It depicts a then-struggling attorney and new mother facing adversity in her fight for equal rights. When Ruth takes on a ground-breaking case, she knows the outcome could alter the courts’ view of gender discrimination. Ruth teams up with her husband, Martin, to fight the case that catapults her into one of the most important public figures of our time. Based on the beloved bestselling novel, A Dog’s Way Home chronicles the heartwarming adventure of Bella, a devoted dog who embarks on an epic 400-mile journey home after she is separated from her beloved human.

We have two non-fiction books ready to go this week. “The Matriarch: Barbara Bush and the Making of an American Dynasty” by Susan Page is the biography of one of the most influential and under-appreciated women in American political history. As a girl in Rye, New York, Barbara Bush weathered criticism of her weight from her mother, barbs that left lifelong scars. As a young wife, she coped with the death of her three-year-old daughter from leukemia, a loss that changed her forever. In middle age, she grappled with depression so serious that she contemplated suicide. And as first the wife and then the mother of American presidents, she made history as the only woman to see -- and advise -- both her husband and son in the Oval Office. In “Elements of Family Style” bestselling author and popular lifestyle blogger Erin Gates shares everything you need to know about designing a beautifully stylish—yet practical and functional—family home through candid advice, inspirational ideas, and lessons learned.

Story Time is Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Middle School Hangout is Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. for kids in grades 6 through 8. LEGO Club is held on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and is for kids in grades K-6.
