Shores Floral Has a New Owner

August 4, 2021

After 33 years in business as the owner of Shores Floral & Gift, Bonnie Weber has sold the shop to Tomi Simenson, although Weber will continue to own the greenhouse portion of the business. Simenson officially took over the business on July 28.

Describing her path to business ownership, Simenson said, "Ten years ago I walked into Shores looking for a job. I was just hoping to help some with the retail side of things, and Bonnie informed me that I would be arranging flowers instead. In my head I thought, 'Yeah, right; we shall see!'"

In a short time, Simenson discovered a talent and passion that she didn't realize she possessed. "I thoroughly enjoyed my job and looked forward to going to work for the first time ever. Over the years at Shores, I have experienced many great memories with some awesome people, expanded my creative skills, and received the good fortune to learn from one of the very best ladies in the business."

Now, ten years later, Simenson can call this business her very own. "I am so thankful that Bonnie taught me as much as she has over the years and trusted me to take on what she has worked so hard to make into what it is today. I am so excited to start this new chapter and am looking forward to all the new memories and adventures to come!"

In response to Simenson, Weber stated: "You are going to rock this place!"

About the sale of her business, Weber added: "I am still very passionate about the business, as it has been my baby that I have strived to grow and improve every year, but after owning the store for 33 years, I was ready to step back.

"I couldn't ask for a more perfect replacement than Tomi. She has worked with me for ten years and has always treated the place as her own. She's got the 'knack,' and not just everyone has that natural ability. It will be an incredibly seamless transition, as the customers already know, love, and trust Tomi. The fact that Ashley Liddle is staying on board is the icing on the cake."

Weber asks that anyone who possesses a gift certificate to Shores Floral that was purchased before July 27, 2021, to please redeem those before November 1. She concluded by saying, "Thank you all again for your loyal support and belief in us. I hope you will stop and see me in the spring when the greenhouse opens!"

About Simenson's new identity, her husband, Justin stated: "Words cannot even begin to express how proud of and excited for this beautiful lady I am! July 28 marks the first official day of being a business owner for her! She has worked so hard and been so dedicated to Shores Floral & Gift, and today she gets to call it her own! She is going to do amazing things and continue to make this one of the most successful businesses around. Thank you to Bonnie Weber and Mark Weber for everything; this gal will make you proud!"

Some of Simenson's immediate plans include giving the store front a facelift. She plans to paint the front for a new look. "Bonnie ran a successful business for many years, so I'm not looking to change much. However, you will gradually notice some of my decorating tastes in a change of décor inside, as well. I have some ideas for new inventory, too," Simenson said.

Simenson will not be changing the name of the store, although the idea crossed her mind. "It has been Shores Floral for years now, and I thought, there's no reason to confuse people, so the name won't change."

Another thing that won't change is the presence of Ashley Liddle. "Ashley and I work well together. In fact, she's a key to the store's operation. I value her," declared Simenson.

Looking ahead, Simenson is considering the addition of some seasonal events, like Paint and Sip or craft sessions where people would come in and create succulent wreaths, for example.

Paint and Sip is a relatively new trend that brings people together to share an evening of art and beverages in a party-like atmosphere. Typical Paint and Sip events combine a professionally-led painting class with a high-energy environment and a few drinks. Wine is one popular drink of choice, but guests may opt for beer, liquor, or lemonade. The point is to paint, sip, and have fun.

"I have a friend who hosts sessions like this, and she draws quite a crowd, so I thought come November, I'd like to try something like that."

Simenson looks forward to serving Hi-Line communities in the years to come. She invites everyone to "stay tuned for a 'Grand Reopening' date."
