Local Contractor Swears by Montana Steel

All of the violent winds we've experienced on the Hi-Line have a way of conjuring images of Dorothy's house in Kansas and the tornado scene in the 1939 movie based on the Frank Baum classic, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. While none of us has the ability to control the weather, we can respond with roofing that won't expose our homes to the elements. That kind of roofing is available from Peter Northcott of Hi-Line Construction.

Northcott came to the Hi-Line area from Canada in 1988 and humbly admits that he has 38 years in the roofing business. His signature project in Chinook is the roof on the sale auction barn at Bear Paw Livestock, which he completed in September 2021. According to Northcott, that roof has a unique shape and features the Montana Steel system that he installs.

Northcott, who lives at Gildford, has installed Stone Coated shingles by Montana Steel on many homes in the area, as well. With a 70 year life expectancy, the UL certified steel shingles are a panel technology that is warrantied for winds up to 120 miles per hour. The panels, fascia, and other accessories are rated Class 4 for impact resistance-the highest rating-and are made from non-combustible Class A fire-rated material. Furthermore, the non-porous, freeze and thaw resistant material is capable of withstanding the impact of 2.5 inch hail.

"All of these features make the Stone Coated material the world's number one steel roofing system," Northcott stated. "It's lightweight, reflects heat, has beautiful curb appeal, and has the potential to increase your home's value. You'll also likely save money on your homeowners insurance!"

Popular in Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Kansas, the roofing material-with its hidden fastener system-is designed not only to be wind and fire-proof but waterproof, as well.

In addition to installing steel roofing and addressing insurance claims, Northcott performs such work as that involving steel siding, concrete, decks, rain gutters, and rain gutter leaf guards. For anyone interested, Northcott can be reached at (406) 399-3125.
