Luriene was born February 7, 1935 in Chinook Montana to Margaret (McGillivray) Gilbert and Charles Gilbert. In 1939 Margaret married Sterling Oberg and they lived in Chinook, Montana for many years.
The McGillivray's, Gilbert's and Oberg's were all from Montana. Luriene was a Montana girl. Margaret and Sterling brought their family to Ballard, Washington in 1952. Luriene attended Ballard High School. In 1954 she completed Practical Dental Nursing in Seattle and worked as a Dental Assistant. She was very proud of this achievement. Luriene met Lewis Winney and Married January 14,1955. Luriene, Lewis and their 4 children resided in Alderwood Manor on their 5 acre ranch where they spent many years raising and racing thoroughbred horses. When Lewis passed away in 1994, Luriene began a whole new adventure. She was very excited to sponsor Alex, an exchange student from Germany. This was life changing for both of them. She loved to go trailer camping, play cards, watch the Mariners and Seahawks and was an avid reader. She was always open to helping her Grandkids. Whether it be advice (solicited or not) or just being a roommate. You could talk to Grandma about anything. She was extremely proud to brag and show pictures of her grandkids and great grandkids!! She had many wonderful friends and neighbors who opened their hearts and gave of their time and kindness as mom aged. They all were essential to her well being. Luriene loved company and travel adventures. She was the life of the party.
Luriene is survived by her 4 children: Deborah (Franco) Distefano; Aimes Winney; Diana (Lennard) Brown; Terrie (Robert) Goiney.
8 Grandchildren: Luigi, Trish, Lew, Lance, Eric, Danielle, Chris and Matt.
7 Great-grandchildren: Leonardo, Samuel, Colette, Griffin, Merritt , Louie and Lucia.
Services for Luriene were held at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Rd. in Lynnwood WA 98036 on Saturday April 29, 2023 beginning at 10:00 am, followed by a graveside service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
