The December winners in the Sweet Escapes 2017 Raffle were drawn last week. The year long raffle involves quarterly and monthly drawings with proceeds going toward needs at Sweet Medical Center. Antonio Castillo Jr (48) of Harlem/ Fort Belknap died as a result of hypothermia and exposure to extremely frigid temperatures on 12/29/2017. Mr. Castillo was residing in an aged bumper pull type camper trailer with an insufficient heat source for the sub-zero ambient temperatures. The manner of death has been determined to be accidental. In mid-December the Blaine County Fair Foundation announced plans to begin site work on a new indoor event center at the fairgrounds. The 100 x 200 metal building will have a dirt floor and can host events varying from barrel races to car shows. The county received the new metal building from Malmstrom Air Force Base through a federal surplus program that makes equipment available to local governments. Chinook resident Tammy Williams has served the public for 33 years and this past Thursday was sworn in as Blaine Counties next Clerk and Recorder. Williams will take over the position from Sandi Boardman who is retiring. Members of the Bullhook Bottoms Barbershop Chorus brought some Christmas cheer to residents at the Sweet Nursing Home and the Grande Villa senior apartments in Chinook last week. The sudden winter storm that struck North Central Montana the first week of October dropped an unusual amount of snow and carried high winds along with it.
