By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of censorship. The books featured during Banned Books Week have all been targeted with removal or restrictions in libraries and schools. While books have been and continue to be banned, part of the Banned Books Week celebration is the fact that, in a majority of cases, the books have remained available. This happens only thanks to the efforts of librarians, teachers, students, and community members who stand...

The tracks that run through Chinook have had many different locomotives carry cargo through town. In recognition of the 2016 Sugarbeet Festivals choice to recognize the Railroad Industry, we at the Blaine County Journal/News Opinion, felt a shot of one of the massive machines rolling through town would be a fitting front page picture. When the conductor of that locomotive turns out to be one of Chinooks own it seemed perfect. Carry Qualls is at the helm of this eastbound trai...

It's a tradition that each Sugarbeet Festival parade is led by a Parade Marshal who represents the industry being featured during the current celebration. With this year's salute to the railroad industry in the area, it seemed natural to have a retired railroad employee head up the parade. This year Bob Cross, who retired from BNSF with 33 years of service, along his wife Pam, will be at the front of the procession to greet spectators as the parade passes through downtown Chinook on Saturday...
