The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds took on the District 1B Rocky Boy Northern Stars last Tuesday. It was the home opener for the Thunderbirds and it also marked the first time they had faced the Morning Stars since they made the move to Class B following the 2009 season. The Turner Tornado girls basketball teams struggles on the court continued this past weekend. Friday in their home opener they welcomed the Fort Benton Longhorns to town. Fort Benton got off to a fast start early on and the Tornadoes did their best to keep pace. The Longhorns held a 18-11 advantage at the end of eight minutes of action. This marked the first meeting between the two teams since Rocky Boy left the District 9C following the 2009 season. The Lady Cats were once again very successful placing two athletes on the podium. Junior Kaitlyn Johnson won the girls 126 pound division while sophomore Izzy Baker fished second at 114 pounds. The Chinook Sugarbeeters performed very well at the Scottie Invitational in Glasgow this past weekend. Senior Tyler Schoen and freshman Emma Klingaman led the way with each winning individual titles. Chinook took 10 boys and 3 girls to Glasgow. Seven wrestlers in addition to Klingaman and Schoen won matches and all 13 have earned wins through two weeks of the season. The Harlem Wildcats took part in the Class B Tip Off Tournament in Billings this past weekend. The tournament, held at Lockwood High School, featured a number of top Class B teams and presented a stiff challenge for the Wildcats.
