    On January 5th, 2026, the Blaine County Commissioners held a hearing at 1 PM in the commissioners’ office in the Blaine County courthouse. The hearing was to establish the Business hours during which the commissioners would conduct transactions pursuant to Section 7-4-102, MCA, and Section 7-4-2211, MCA. The current hours of operation mandated by state legislation for county offices open to the public are 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday, and closed legal holidays.     Next time you visit Kuper Memorial Cemetery, you may notice a new feature. On December 22, 2025, the Cemetery installed a niche wall, sometimes referred to as a Columbarium. The wall contains twenty compartments which will hold cremated remains. The Cemetery Board had discussed erecting a niche wall for many years and were finally able to obtain the necessary funds and purchased the wall this past summer.     The Turner/Hogeland Lions Club held their annual New Year's Eve celebration at the Old Gym in Turner on December 31. The community gathered to usher in 2026, and the Lions announced awards.     A local veteran in Chinook has initiated a newsletter campaign for the purpose of information sharing. The campaign proposes not only to recognize the work of local veterans groups, such as VFW Post 4620, American Legion Post 48, and their two Auxiliary units, but also to alert people to important military holidays, historical dates, and upcoming events that affect and involve veterans.     The University of Montana (UM) News Service recently released the Dean’s List and President’s 4.0 List for Fall Semester 2025. Among the more than 3,000 students who made the lists, four are from Blaine County. According to UM officials, to qualify, students must be undergraduates, earn a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher, and receive grades of A or B in at least nine credits.     Week two of the new year is in the books, and the Chinook boys basketball team got last week off to a great start. Last Thursday night, the Sugarbeeters got their first win of 2026, as they beat District 1B rival Cut Bank, 56-45. Behind Ryan Bell's 34 points, which included four 3-pointers, the Beeters were able to pull away from the Wolves in the final eight minutes. Bell got help, too. Harlem was in action last Thursday as the Wildcats played girls and boys games against Box Elder. Harlem got right back to its winning ways on Friday night as the Wildcats took down District 2B rival Wolf Point, 70-53.
