Be responsible during the holidays, take the bus or call for a ride. A wind driven wildfire burned about 1,000 acres east of the Fort Belknap Agency last Wednesday afternoon and evening. According to Byard Lame Bull, Fort Belknap's Acting Fire Management Officer, the fire began about 2:30 p.m. and winds gusting to 60 miles per hour eventually created a fire five to six miles long and a mile wide in some areas. The Blaine County DUI Task Force is tasked with “reducing the number of impaired drivers, crashes, injuries and deaths related to drug and alcohol use and motor vehicles.” The Task Force was recently rejuvenated and new leaders and task force members are taking their charge to reduce traffic deaths seriously. The Lloyada Ladies met on November 6, 2015 at the Motor Inn for a No-Host Luncheon. Hosts Barb Swenson and Colette Olson had pumpkin pie served after the meal. The membership discussed the Sugarbeet Festival and the float they had in the parade entitled “Communications, You’ve Come Along Way Baby.” The group had a planning meeting on September 14, and on September 23 decorated the float for the parade on September 26. The final results are in at Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Havre check station for the 2015 hunting season. The check station was open from Oct. 10 (the open of general antelope) through Nov. 29 (the end of the big game season). In general, both hunter numbers and big-game harvest increased from last year. Tom and Lucy Fairbank were to Colorado over Thanksgiving to visit Chris and Richard Humphreys and family. Max and Kirsti had a late Thanksgiving in Great Falls with NellieCederberg, and Dale and Lynda Cederberg last week. Virginia McCracken had hunters at her home the week before Thanksgiving. The second meeting of the Valley Clovers 4-H Meeting was called to order by president Brooke Elliott at 2 p.m. on Nov. 8 at Wallner Hall. There were 3 leaders, 24 members, and several guests present. Since a spring, 2015 announcement the National Guard facility in Chinook would be closed and declared surplus by fall, the fate of the two buildings on the east edge of town has been unclear. A few months ago the cities of Harlem, Chinook and Malta entered into an agreement to participate in a study of housing needs in the respective towns. According to Eryn Nissen, with Bear Paw Development, the study was awarded to the towns through a state grant with matching funds provided by Opportunity Link, a Havre-based agency that helps communities in an eleven county region deal with poverty issues. Beginning December 27 the Port of Raymond will reduce its hours from round the clock to a new opening time of 8am each day. The upgrade to the Water Treatment Plant in Chinook involves a lot of different skills and procedures to complete the project. A recent installation required calling in divers who specialize in underwater work. Clint Greytak became the sole proprietor of Bear Paw Realty in July, 2015 after buying out the other co-owners. He recently changed the name of the real estate company to Greytak Realty.
