The Montana Federation of Swimmers Eastern Divisional took place in Plentywood this past weekend. 360 swimmers and 12 teams were entered in the event, all hoping to punch their ticket to the State Swim Meet in Lewistown next Weekend. The Chinook Lions and Harlem swim teams concluded the Montana Federation of Swimmers regular season schedule this past weekend in Fort Benton. The Lions had a good contingent with 14 swimmers on hand to compete. Harlem had one swimmer in the pool in the regular season finale. It was a tough go for everyone involved, not because of the nearly 300 swimmers set to compete, but because of the scorching heat. When the 2021-22 High School sports season concluded the Harlem Wildcats were left with coaching vacancies across the board, all sports, all levels, Varsity, Junior Varsity, C Squad and Junior High. Beginning with the May School Board meeting and continuing with the June Meeting those positions have largely been filled. The Chinook Lions and Harlem Swim Teams were in Chester this weekend in the final meet of the month. The teams will take the Fourth of July weekend off and return to the pool July 9-10 at the Malta Invitational. The Chinook Golf Course held its 27 Hole Triple Play Golf tournament this past Sunday. This tournament is fairly new as far as top notch tournaments go, but it has certainly become a premier event for the course. Next to the Fireball Tournament it is the largest, most successful, tournament on the summer schedule. The Triple Play challenge is unique in its format as it begins with 9 holes of Best Ball. The Chinook Sugarbeeter girls basketball team shined this past weekend in Glendive at the Dawson Community College Summer High School Basketball Tournament. The tournament consist of an eight team upper division and a 16 team lower division. Both a boys and girls tournament is ran simultaneously with games being played at the college, the high school and the middle school. The Harlem Lady Cats are coming off a wild season in which they experienced the highest of highs and some lows along the way. Their season ended at the Class B State Tournament in a showing that surprised a lot of people. The Chinook golf course sure looks good after the recent rainfall. The greens and fairways have come along making the course look as spectacular as ever. Course Superintendent Mike Seymour and his crew recently aerated the greens in a further effort to improve the course and soon they will be rolling like one would expect them to. The 'Trailer' as it is referred to is where all the results are processed, saved and eventually uploaded to the Montana Federation of Swimmers Headquarters. There are two divisions in the Montana Federation of Swimmers organization, East and West. Each has its own trailer that is maintained and staffed by each meets host. The 2022 Bear Paw Marathon took place this past Saturday and a number of Blaine County Runners took to the course. Five competed in the full marathon, just two runners completed the half marathon and 13 women and six men ran the 5K. Ages ranged from 5-62 and represented Chinook, Harlem, Hays and Zurich.
