Medical student Ruby Gawarkiewicz recently completed a four-week rotation at Northern Montana Health Care, gaining hands-on clinical experience and exploring different fields she could pursue as a physician. In his eighth year as a member of the North Chinook Boosters 4-H Club, Beau Elias works a regular schedule with his steer Moose. An animal from Elias Ranch, Moose is a Black Baldy, which is a cross between a Hereford cow and an Angus bull in this case. Beau's Market Steer Project began with weaning on October 25 last fall, although official weigh-ins for the project were conducted on January 4. A blood drive was held in Chinook on July 21, 2026, with 31 donors stepping forward to help meet the ongoing need for lifesaving blood. Hosted by the Scobey Stingrays at the Roseland Park Pool, the 2026 Eastern Divisional Swim Meet took place on July 25–26 in Scobey, Montana. The Chinook Lions Swim Team had 29 swimmers travel to Scobey for the Eastern Divisional Swim Meet. The Eastern Divisional Meet had 316 swimmers vying to earn their spot to advance to the State Swim Meet. Swimmers finishing in the Top 12 in the event move forward to the State Swim Meet in Plentywood. The Lions finished in 4th place overall as a team, behind Scobey, Sidney, and Glendive. What a postseason it was for the Havre Northstars American Legion baseball team. After winning the Northern A District championship, the Northstars made a push for a Class A state title last weekend in Dillon. Havre started off the 2026 State A Tournament with a loss to Miles City in the first round last Wednesday. Havre-Hill County Library is still open despite the disruptions caused by water damage this spring. Although the basement level is closed, librarians will pull books you request from the temporary storage area. Construction work, including concrete flooring, is scheduled to begin at the end of August or in early September. Jim Margaris passed away on July 22, 2026, at the Crescent Assisted Living Home in Sandy, Utah. He was born in Great Falls, MT on February 5, 1931, to Louis and Lola Margaris, who immigrated to the U.S. from Greece in the early 1900's. He lived a life defined by service and devotion.
