The regular season of the Montana Federation of Swimmers summer schedule concluded this past weekend with the Chinook Lions Swim Team competing in Sidney and the bulk of the Harlem Swim Team in Choteau. July is a very busy month for many student athletes in Blaine County. The Big Sky State Games are being played over the course of three weeks in Billings and include everything from Table Tennis to Pickle Ball and Basketball. The Chinook Sugarbeeter Volleyball team came together to form a single team with the availability to compete at the Big Sky State Games in Billings this past weekend. Because of the age disparity they had to compete in the 11-12 grade division that included 10 other teams, including Class AA and Class A. The Chinook Golf and Country Club hosted 26 teams in the Annual Maurice Harshman Memorial Golf Tournament this past Saturday. This event has grown through the years and with the tandem of Mike Seymour and Mike Jones leading the way as tournament directors it reached new heights this year. This past week, July 1-3 kids in the Hays and Lodge Pole communities and those nearby were fortunate enough to be able to take part in the 'gROw Basketball Training Camp' held at the Hays/Lodge Pole High School. The camp ran from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. daily and provided kids grade 3-12 an opportunity to learn about the game and themselves along the way. The Chinook B League Girls Fast-Pitch Softball team concluded a perfect season with a bases loaded walk-off walk in eighth inning of the Championship Game on Thursday, June 24. Chinook won the title contest 5-4. Originally, the Championship was supposed to be a double elimination format. The Chinook Golf and Country Club held its annual Community Dinner and Auction on Saturday, June 26 at the Blaine County Fairgrounds. The evening festivities included a BBQ Baby-back Rib Dinner cooked by Kris Parsons and Travis Schwindt. More than 110 meals were served at the fairgrounds and 15-20 more through take out and delivery. The Chinook Sugarbeeter Girls Basketball team has been putting in the work this summer and have found plenty of success along the way. The Harlem Lady Cats were at Dixie State University in Utah this past week. The long trek south was definitely worth it as the girls got to experience many new things together, build team spirit, and play some basketball. Chinook Sugarbeeter Football Head Coach Mike Jones, along with Assistant Coaches Roy Kelly and Scott Schmitt took 24 kids down to Bozeman to take part in the Montana State University Bobcat Eight-man Football Camp. The 32 Annual Class B All-Star Football game was played at Lockwood Stadium in Billings this past weekend. Thanks in part to a huge interception late in the first half at the two yard line by Harlem's Andrew Rasmussen the North was able to secure a 28-21 victory. The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds girls basketball team had an outstanding showing in Stanford this past Sunday going 4-0 in the tournament and claiming a 39-21 win over the Centerville Miners in the Championship.
