  • One Person's Vision Leads to Collaboration

    Donna Miller|Jun 3, 2026

Any Montanan who hasn't read the poetry of Richard Hugo (1923-1982) is missing out. Whether examining the lines from "Driving Montana," "Montana Ranch Abandoned," "Bear Paw," or "Degrees of Gray in Philipsburg," Hugo's poetry captures a multi-faceted view of Montana. Located in place, his poetry also reminds readers that life is about "[riding] the forces of whatever sweeps us along. . . to be tougher than fate." Perhaps above all, Hugo confirms that Montana is one big small town. And there are...

In moments like these it feels like heaven truly smiles down and all seems right with the world. A day like this leaves one feeling rejuvenated and alive...

  • Hello God - It's me, Mara

    Jun 3, 2026

You know, Lord, we’ all have interesting ideas about Happy Homes... just sharing a few ideas: Ms. ‘R.D’. mentioned LONG AGO, her mother was very careful about smelly refrigerators. She remembered mommy removing ALL the food, wiping down ALL surfaces with disinfection spray cleaner. Sometimes she did that, but she did NOT do mother’s step #2 which was to spread a dozen smashed charcoal briquettes on two trays, placing one in the fridge and one in the freezer. Her hubby did NOT LIKE THAT. Ms. R. S. liked ‘Holiday Gravy Mishaps’ when she was a k...

  • If I Were A Car

    Sondra Ashton|Jun 3, 2026

If I were a car, I’d choose to be a 1945 Pontiac sedan, green. Why a Pontiac. Because the first family car I remember was a Pontiac, an older model than a ’45, pretty sure. I don’t remember my Dad ever buying a new car, but when he worked for Ford Motor in Louisville, he might have. Memory is a funny, fluid thing. Somewhere in a box I have a photo of me as a little girl standing in front of our Pontiac, gray, holding my Dad’s hand. Since I’m not a car and this is my imagination, I can choose the year of my birth and the model and color I w...

  • Out Our Way: Busted

    Jun 3, 2026

Out our way folks some times say,” I may not have busted many broncos, but some sure busted me!” Today is one of those days. Copper and I were on our walk and coming into the back yard, I lost my balance and fell. No big deal except the legs and knees refused to cooperate, I had to crawl to the fence and pull myself up. Getting old ain’t for the young — or those who think that the youth inside and the old coot on the outside are the same. Nope! Nu-uh! Can’t be done! Today is Memorial Day — and a friend reminded me of his flight home after...
