This picture taken near Chinook looking north....
Governor Greg Gianforte today ended the state of emergency in Montana he declared in January 2021 to address the COVID-19 pandemic in the state. “Months ago, the light at the end of the tunnel was distant and dim. As we’ve worked together to overcome this pandemic, the light has grown bigger and brighter. Today, we are out of the tunnel, and we are surrounded in light. Today, the conditions we face are nothing like what we faced 15 months ago, 12 months ago, or six months ago,” Gianforte said. “Today, the conditions we face no longer warrant...

Because these taxes fund various services provided by the government-services such as libraries, parks, road maintenance, and garbage collection-they are an important component of a city's and a county's budget. However, the list of Delinquent Taxes prepared by County Treasurer Tori MacLean DesRosier and submitted in June to the Board of County Commissioners was 92 pages long, with some properties delinquent since 1999. This information...

This aerial photo taken recently shows the current water levels at the north end of Fresno Reservoir. Currently, Fresno is listed at 59% capacity. Work is still being done at various locations along the Saint Mary Diversion Dam project and hopefully that work will allow the reservoir to maintain sustainable water levels. Of course a little help from Mother Nature in the form of precipitation would help a lot as well....

With every season, different insects appear, and occasionally we see those that might inspire a comment like "What in tarnation is this devil bug?!" When that happens, there's an app for that. However, the curious individual in Blaine County can always take insects to the Extension Office to have them identified. That was the word last week from Julianne Snedigar, MSU Blaine County Ag, Natural Resources, and 4-H Extension Agent. After a Chinook resident encountered a pseudoscorpion-a tiny...
FORT PECK – Anglers and boaters recreating on Fort Peck Reservoir this year have noticed that water levels are lower than they have been the last several years. More shoreline is exposed, boat ramps are longer (all ramps are currently usable), and islands and shallow points are “popping up” where they haven’t been seen for years. Besides making boating on the reservoir a little more challenging, how do these lower water levels affect the fishery of Fort Peck? Changing water levels are nothing new to Fort Peck. Since Fort Peck Dam was constru...
Red Cross Blood Drive is Tuesday July 20, from 12 noon - 6PM. Appointments are highly encouraged by the Red Cross. However, the Red Cross does realize that an appointment is not always possible. Due to the difficulty at the past two drives to accommodate walk-ins, there has been communication between myself and the Senior Donor Recruitment Rep at American Red Cross in Great Falls. He has informed me that they have added additional staff to our blood drive here in Chinook on July 20th so that those walking in CAN donate. We will be giving the...

With thirty-three years in business, Weber has a multitude of memories, but three aspects that e...

On June 7, Kadie Dahl, the owner of All Dahl'd Up, started something on social media. Followed by the two hashtags: #comingsoon and #June19th, Dahl asked: "What do unicorn farts, shark attacks, and 4th of July popsicles all have in common?" That was the beginning of a hype campaign that culminated in a Tea Party event on Saturday, June 19. Although she didn't get a lot of engagement on that initial prompt, Dahl persisted. On June 9, she announced that several new displays were arriving in...
