The Chinook Lions hosted the Eastern Divisional swim meet this past weekend as the 2018 Summer Swim Season winds down. The top 12 swimmers/relays in each event advanced to the state swim meet in Conrad this weekend. A total of 383 swimmers took part in the meet, including 113 relays and 1,139 entries. The Chinook Lions and Harlem swim teams took a full compliment of swimmers to Lewistown this past weekend and swam very well. The Chinook Lions finished second overall in the team points race as well as second in the relay race. The Lions had two High Point winners, Rachel Stephens in the eight and under Bantam girls and Daniel Tilleman in the 9-10 Midget boys. In their last swim, (June 30 - July 1) before the Blaine County Fair, Harlem's Andrew Rasmussen, Lillian Cochran and Alaynee Hawley along with Chinooks Rachel Stephens each claimed High Point honors in their respective division. The Chinook Lions Swim team was limited in numbers this week when only a handful of swimmers made the trip to Cut Bank as the season enters the home stretch of the regular season. Both teams were in Chester this past weekend while also having a few swimmers traveling east to Plentywood. The summer swim season officially kicked off this past weekend in Harlem as they hosted the first meet of the Montana Federation of Swimmers summer schedule. Isiah RunsAbove, a senior at Hays-Lodge Pole High School, recently signed a letter of intent to run cross country for the Montana State University-Northern men's cross country team beginning this fall of 2018. The Class C State Track and Field meet in Great Falls this past weekend produced plenty of memorable moments including the efforts of Turner senior Eddie Harmon and his teammate, junior Cody Welsh. The Chinook Sugarbeeter girls finished fourth at the State C Golf tournament held at Fairmont Hot Springs last week. The girls finished with a score of 646 just three shots out of third and fourth out of second. The team consisted of senior Carrie Hofer and junior Ashley MacLeod who were both making there third appearance at the state meet. Harlem Sophomore L’Tia Lawrence and Turner senior Eddie Harmon were golden last week at the annual gathering of the top performers this season across the Hi-line at the Annual Top 10 Meet in Glasgow. The Chinook Sugarbeeters are on a roll when it comes to performing very well on the links. The team hosted their own invitational this past Saturday sweeping the team title in the process and crowning an Individual champion in the process. The Chinook Rod and Gun Club has been very active in getting as many local kids outdoor as they can reach. They have reached out to the local elementary schools in recent years and have partnered with them to provide a safe educational day of fishing. The Cal Wearley Track and Field meet usually takes place the first Wednesday of April and is typically used as a stiff early season test for athletes to dust off the cobwebs of winter as the season gets underway.
