Eleven students completed a Responsible Alcohol Sales and Service (RASS) training class recently hosted by the Eagles Club in Chinook. The state mandated class teaches participants the laws relating to serving alcohol in Montana’s establishments. Milk River Disposal took over the solid waste pickup service for Chinook households and commercial businesses on February 1 of this year. Trevor Smith, who owns and operates Milk River Disposal, said he felt the transition has gone well. The Harlem Golf Association has set its annual fundraiser to help support operation of the golf course for Saturday, April 2, 6-10pm at the Harlem VFW Club. About 50 fifth through eighth graders from seven elementary schools in the county gathered last week to determine the overall county spelling champion at the annual Blaine County Spelling Bee. Jeanne Dalton became the new director of the Chinook Food Pantry at the start of January, 2016. She took over the helm of the local non-profit food distribution operation from longtime director Amelia Funk, who served as the first and only director since 2000. The Food Pantry is staffed entirely by volunteers, including the director. A heater in one of the Harlem Water Treatment plants failed and ended up heating to the point of melting lead seals. When one of the city workers went into the room, he was hit in the face with a blast of chlorine causing injury and lung damage, according to city officials. Kristi Norby started work as the new director of the Chinook Senior Center. She replaces Marilyne Berger who is retiring after more than 10 years at the helm of the center. Norby began her new duties on January, 14. Berger plans to work with and train the new director until the end of February. Marilyne, and her husband Don, are longtime residents of Chinook. Jade Cecrle, a 12 year old seventh grader at Chinook Junior High, is an active member of 4-H and a horse enthusiast.
