The Chinook track and field teams were looking to build momentum this weekend, but instead, poor spring weather caused the Shelby Invitational to be cancelled last Friday. The Beeters will be one of many area teams to compete in this weekend's Havre Lions Invite in Havre. Chinook wrestler Kimber Klein, part of Team Montana, was a star at the Iowa Duals. Klein, an All-State wrestler for the Sugarbeeters, went undefeated at the AAU tournament in Iowa. Klein had perfect 8-0 record in her weight class, earned USA All-American honors, and helped Team Montana to an eighth-place finish. After a short break, the Havre High track and field teams return to action this weekend, and it will be on the Ponies' home turf. On Saturday, Havre will host the Havre Lions Invite, the Ponies; big home meet for the 2026 season. Many local teams are set to compete in Havre, including the Class B Chinook Sugarebeeters, Harlem Wildcats and Fort Benton Longhorns. The Havre High softball team had another tough Eastern A road trip this past weekend. It started with the Blue Ponies falling at Miles City, 18-3 last Friday. With just two weeks left in the Big Sky Region Spring rodeo season, the Montana State University-Northern Skylights are really shining. And they did again last weekend in Miles City. The Northern women finished second at the MCC Rodeo with 435 points. The Northern men finished fourth overall. Cancellations were part of the story once again last week for many area spring sports teams. However, both the Chinook golf teams and girls tennis team did get some competition in last Saturday. Another meet, another great showing by the Turner girls track and field team. Last weekend, the Tornadoes took part in the Winifred Track Meet, where the Turner girls placed third overall with 82 points. Turner finished only behind DGS and District 9C rival North Star. Havre High attended the Billings Invitational last Saturday, where the Ponies were part of a 19-team meet that featured all five Billings’ schools, as well as Bozeman and Gallatin High, among other powerhouses. It's spring rodeo season in the Big Sky Region, and Havre was the place to be last weekend as the Montana State University-Northern Rodeo Team hosted the annual MSU-Northern Rodeo at the Great Northern Fairgrounds. Head coach Doug Kallenberger's women's team scored 340 points to finish second in the rodeo, while the Lights placed seventh. It was a tough weekend on the softball diamond for the Havre Blue Ponies, as they dropped games to Shepherd and Laurel this past weekend. The Ponies opened the weekend with a 9-1 loss to Shepherd.The Blue Ponies opened the scoring in the first after Bree Hanson singled, scoring one run. It’s the busiest time of the season for the Havre High tennis teams, and this tough stretch started last weekend at the Class A Invite in Cut Bank. The Havre tennis teams played duals against Polson, Hamilton, Libby and Cut Bank last weekend, and the competition was really good for the Ponies. Things started last Friday where the Havre boys fell to Polson 5-2 with victories coming from Wyatt Jelly in singles and Max Spangler and Carter Chagnon in doubles. The first big track meet of the high school season was held last Saturday in Havre as North Star hosted the annual Cal Wearley Invitational. With the weather not exactly cooperating early in the spring, the Chinook golf teams were more then happy to see the sunshine at the Sunnyside Country Club last week in Glasgow. Chinook competed in the Scottie Invitational where the Sugarbeeters finished third in the boys meet and fourth in the girls tournament. The weather cooperated and it turned out to be a busy last week for the Havre High softball team. Things started a little rocky for the Blue Ponies last Tuesday as they lost their home opener to Lewistown 26-9 at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. Though this past week saw plenty of cancellations due to poor weather, the Havre High spring sports seasons are indeed underway.
